  • You said short o in schonen and long o in Wohlen but both schonen and wohlen look the same from a spelling perspective ?

    • From a spelling perspective it’s always a bit difficult to know what is short and what is long. There is one rule though: whenever you have a double consonant after a vowel, the vowel will be short (e. g. in “kann” the a must be short). However if you have a single consonant after the vowel you cannot be 100% sure whether the vowel before it will be long or short.
