Video transcript

When we say the sound ‘øy’ in Norwegian, we do so by moving from the sound ‘ø’ to the sound ‘y’. So, I will demonstrate it very slowly for you. ‘Øy’,’ øy’. And naturally when you speak, you won’t say it as slowly. But, when you practice in the beginning it’s good to start slowly like that. And, also, it’s not pronounced as two separate sounds ‘ø-y’. We say it as one sound: ‘øy’, like this. I will now read a few example words for you that you can repeat after me: Øy, høy, undertøy, øye, syltetøy.
